PNW person. Your cat probably likes me. I like big dogs, rare exceptions made for tiny non barky ones. Lower your expectations for me on here…no, I said lower.

The forced slow down lets you process, think, re-examine and make adjustments to what you wrote. You don’t have to be prolific, or even detailed. Make a bullet point list, doodle if you want. It’s still a good skill. Not a sexy therapy skill, but a good one. (2/2).

Been a minute, and here is a brief thought about writing or journaling your feelings: it can be really annoying to be told “you should journal.” Even when I say it in sessions, I always explain more. Journaling forces your brain to slow down. Hand writing your journal, even slower (1/2)

Thoughts after a day of therapy: care givers are super human, often worry or feel guilty they aren’t doing enough or aren’t doing the right thing. They will burn the candle at both ends. But, they can be incredibly invisible in our society. They need more hugs. They deserve respect and attention.

I hear often there is a lack of therapists, a shortage of them. Part of this is true, but here are other things that are also true:
Therapists are offered low wages to work hard AF jobs. I just viewed a remote supervisor position to oversee a crisis hotline. It gave a range of $43-$45/per hour. 1/4

What else would you want to know about your therapist? I would say: Tell me your pronouns, Social Security is not an entitlement, vaccines save lives, and I’m still looking for proof America was great in the past for ALL living here. I could say more. Make sure you feel safe w/your therapist. 2/2

It’s okay to ask and have a conversation with your therapist that is political or helps you understand their politics. If someone asked me today I would say: I didn’t vote for Trump, I want my taxes to pay for education and social services, tax the rich, Gaza is a genocide, Black Lives Matter. 1/2

People say stupid shit to people in crisis, or in grief, or in sadness. Or they might say nothing at all. All of the above can be hurtful. They let their anxiety get in the way. It probably stems from a good place…but you can still tell them in hurts. Or to get stuffed.

So much of my feed on here is already cats. I guess I can appreciate that I didn’t have to work too hard for this kind of understanding.

The broadcast journalist Gayle King and the singer Katy Perry were set to make a brief trip into space on Monday on a flight operated by Jeff Bezos’ private company, Blue Origin. It would be the first time an all-female crew has been to space since 1963.

Here's the latest.
Blue Origin Flight Will Take 6 Women, Including Gayle King and Katy Perry, to Space
The women were set to travel on Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket, as part of the first all-female space crew in more than 60 years.

On Insta I just started following the content of @bianca_tickner. She is posting about going on a grief trip, and I love this. As a therapist whose favorite thing is grief work, I love seeing how individuals process their loss. TY for sharing and taking us along Bianca.

Did a drive by with the protesters of Bothell, WA today. I beeped my horn while my kid rolled down her window and held up our Hands Off sign. Wish we could have been there on the sidewalk, but we joined how we could. Also, Seattle showed up today at Seattle Center, and that was a joy to see!

Notes from the middling neighborhood therapist: making generational change is hard af and takes time. Keep going though, because it’s worth it. It’s worth it every time, all the time. You will be proud of you, that little kid you were will be proud of you, your own kids will be proud of you.

Here I am, hoping I don’t embarrass myself on another platform I don’t fully understand how to use, but feel like I can pull it off.
