I've been taking a break from game design and doing some fiction writing as of late to scratch the creative itch and subdue the dread I feel at my 9-5. Looking forward to taking an early train into Chicago on Friday; it will be nice to have some uninterrupted writing time for a few hours

Haven't posted in six months. Delver update: we're changing up some of our rules and mechanics in preparation for Design Day with Stonemaier Games later this year. This new version eschews tiles in place of "room" cards with dice placements. We'll see how it goes!

I've been in a design rut lately but I decided to mix things up and design a Mario Maker 2 level. Give it a go if you're bored!

I'm incredibly humbled to have Delver winning the Theme Award and Replay Value Award. For me, this is just the beginning. I will continue to develop and improve Delver for a (hopeful) commercial release someday.

Gearing up to present my board game at a local design competition, later this month. I'm both excited and filled with trepidation. After the competition is over, it's going back to the drawing board for more revisions before it's truly ready for print.

Love this pics though!

Playtesting Delver in our local community was a huge hit! People had a lot of fun and we got a trove of solid feedback and suggestions for improvements.

Do you ever lose your creativity for a project? Last month, we ended up getting stuck on the design of Bark Barons, and thought we would have to put our board game design ambitions on pause.

But after a little bit of miniature painting, we have returned to work on a new game: Delver!

Just played our first game of Clank: Catacombs! @lycheelizard.bsky.social won with 122 points. It was a lot of fun. Catacombs is definitely more dynamic than base game.

This was a treat to read through! I loved the Network Spell ability and the Motivating Ringtone spell the most. A lot of the features and abilities are very on theme.

The aperiodic monotile experiment was a success for Bark Barons! The hat tile makes for a very organic looking shape that can be titled randomly. Now we can start bringing in other mechanics like weather and lords.

After discussing ways to do board tiles for Bark Barons, we came across the Einstein Hat Tile. This looks promising for the development of our game but I think a challenge will be how to communicate rules on how to place tiles. It does look neat though. ✂️🎲

🎲✂️ Board game designers: do you have a game you like that handles negotiation among players or the use of contracts really well? I'm trying to get some inspiration for my board game in development.

Let me know!

Game improvement is a great topic. There's multiple paths there

Questions I ask after playtesting: Did you feel like a [role]? What did you enjoy most? Least? Was there something you wanted to do but couldn't?

Players know the answers to these and are 100% correct, if sometimes inarticulate 🎲✂️

I began designing Bark Barons a month ago with a friend of mine. One thing we weren't prepared for was how bad a first draft of a game really is!

But we didn't let that discourage us. Less than a week of rapid prototyping brought us from an awful concept to something workable.

Keep choppin'! 🎲✂️
