St. Lambert's Church in Münster, Germany, with iron cages in the tower. Summary by Claude: “They were used to display the corpses of three Anabaptist leaders - Jan van Leiden, Bernhard Knipperdolling, and Bernhard Krechting - after their execution in 1536. These leaders had established a radical Anabaptist commune in Münster, taking control of the city in 1534. The three iron cages still hang on the church tower today as a historical reminder of this period. The cages were hung there after the siege and recapture of the city by Catholic forces led by the Prince-Bishop Franz von Waldeck. After the leaders were tortured and executed, their bodies were placed in these cages as a warning to others who might consider similar religious rebellions. This event was part of a larger historical episode known as the Münster Rebellion, where radical Anabaptists attempted to establish what they believed would be a godly kingdom in preparation for the Second Coming of Christ.
