As a pedestrian I almost get run over a couple times a year walking in the city but you can basically walk out in front of waymos with impunity because the lidar sees you well in advance.

(As someone born and raised in MN and now living in SF) I'm very surprised by the cynicism surrounding Waymo. The technology is amazing - as a pedestrian/rider/driver I feel far safer around them than with rideshare drivers, or California drivers in general. They'll definitely be manned at first.
