The Mimi was an actual 72-foot French-built sailboat from 1934, originally used as a cargo barge and later converted for fishing.

The series was created in response to a U.S. Department of Education proposal aimed at developing innovative science curricula for middle school students.

Voyage of the Mimi was a 1984 tv series following the crew of the ship Mimi as they explore the ocean and conduct a census of humpback whales 🐋

It was also one of Ben Affleck’s first acting roles.
