Slow stitch as meditation... I'm rediscovering the tranquility of sitting and slowly adding hundreds of tiny stitches over scraps of fabric. For a couple of years I just lost the desire to do it, suddenly it feels right again. Onwards...x

Some remarkable flooding on our travels today. This is the Harringworth Viaduct near Uppingham.

First 'circuit' for a month, there are significant changes, bracken almost my height, elderflowers, dog roses. It feels like summer, albeit a chilly one. Simple pleasures...x

The view from the bench in the churchyard this morning... considerable improvement on the last visit on Wednesday. Good to be soaking up the spring sunshine, even if you still need a coat and scarf...x

I went back to this piece again this afternoon. Sometimes, I feel that I know exactly where I'm going, other times, it's far less defined. I was on the brink of overpainting, then decided not to. I really want to feel spring-like, perhaps that's why it stayed. It's fun making art (also frustrating).

Ever wish you could sit in a reclining seat to have a long and proper look at the stained glass windows? I find them mesmerising, but it makes my neck ache...x

Luckily, I headed out for a walk along the Grand Union Canal, before the weather turned grim...x Now it's bucketing.

It's always struck me as strange that the art we like is rarely the art we make, but it's somehow important to make our own art regardless...x

Today I have mostly been sticking bits of paper onto another piece of paper. Collage feeds my need to play and explore, I love building up layers on layers. Everyone needs a happy place for creative expression and this is mine....x

Yesterday, I walked beside the Grand Union Canal from Leighton Buzzard to Bletchley (5 or 6 miles) - glorious weather - and the swans outnumbered the people I met by two to one...x

Home after a trip to Stratford to see The Box of Delights at the RSC. It was truly magical, and I'm incredibly grateful that the performance wasn't cancelled due to the flooding (previous performances this week were cancelled). Amazing sights. The Avon is very high!

I still can't decide why a flock of sheep, in a line, beside the Grand Union Canal, on a grey January morning, makes me smile, but it does. Perhaps you too? Anyway, there you have it...x

We popped up to Worcestershire yesterday. The Guildhall was looking festive, and the racecourse had swans swimming on it...so, nothing unusual there....x

Ah Edinburgh, a city of contrasts. We had a lovely time. Now we're back home and I'm thinking of rereading the Rebus novels, only this time I'll know where everywhere is...x

I didn't have much time for exploring yesterday, but I found Holyrood Palace (not that it was lost, but you know what I mean)...so I took the typical tourist photo...x

The interior of St. Giles cathedral was a huge surprise. I hadn't anticipated so much colourful glass! I'm not generally a massive fan of Victorian stained glass, but there were some really gorgeous windows. I can feel some jewel-coloured collage coming on...x

Traffic cones in unusual situations have been rather a feature of our Scottish trip. This cheeky chappy is outside St.Giles cathedral, Edinburgh.
