In other news, we’re walking along a long, almost empty Devon beach and discovering we’re being overtaken by a seal “in the fast lane”, oh-so-elegantly easing him/herself up the shoreline, carefully avoiding one or two surprised human swimmers and generally absolutely owning the whole beach.

The government can’t have it both ways: either universities are a common public good with proper funding (& then govt has a legitimate interest in who we educate); but if we have to run as businesses, then don’t cut off a vital income stream and impose an extra levy on the income….
