Weirdness: in the *mean* time, our European streaming service Tivify managed to get the sumo recorded, and not just whatever it was they had on the channel we were playing in expectation of our sumo.

What has changed is simple: people are scared of crossing Trump this time. In researching this piece, I interviewed dozens of figures, including lawmakers, private sector executives, retired senior military figures and intelligence chiefs, current and former Trump officials, Washington lawyers and foreign government officials. Such is the fear of jail, bankruptcy or professional reprisal, that most of these people insisted on anonymity. This was in spite of the fact that many of the same people also wanted to emphasise that Trump would only be restrained by powerful voices opposing him publicly. At times, it has felt like trying to report on politics in Turkey or Hungary.

Alas, poor Ambiorix! I knew him... from a commentary!

Half of the battle of regular journalling has been perfect being the enemy of good. Another has been understanding I get to decide what's "the right way" for me. And, apoarently, part of that is writing with fountain pen.

More self-directed occupatioonal therapy, I guess The paper is shodō paper, soft and absorbent. Accordion folded, and each "mountain fold" treated as a signature for the purposes of the Coptic binding. Using waxed embroidery floss & card stock from Flow magazine.
Another recent bookbinding project: a card-covered book stands open, spine facing toward the camera. The Coptic binding is done in dark red, contrasting with the cream of the paper. The covers are predominantly light green, with rough shapes indicating flowers and darker-hued leaves. Same book as previous, but viewed from the inside. A blue thread holds the bookblock pages shut, to allow the insides of the covers to be seen together: they show a scene of a corner of a house, with one window visible, on the left side, and then a yard with trees and plants, also running through to the right-side inner cover. A bit of "hidden art".

So, some nice things arrived! The top two are an order from @chaptersbookstore.bsky.social, & I am a very happy Belgian resident as they took only a week to arrive! The lower one came via a German branch of a large bookseller - not at the USA sale price but still reasonable, esp 4 a hardback.
Recently arrived - top left is Four Lost Cities: a secret history of the urban age by @annaleen.bsky.social; top right is The Odyssey by Homer, translated (deliciously for reading!) by @emilycwilson.bsky.social; below by itself is STRIKE: labor unions and resistance in the Roman Empire by @sarahebond.bsky.social - all acquired thanks to #BookSky

As promised - photos!

The two rooms in the center of the picture have ranks of low pillars, which once supported a floor - the baths' furnace also supplied warm air to this space, warming the room above. A model of the ruined Roman baths of Heerlen, in a nearby museum; the photo is taken from nearly above the model, which is on a round table in a atrium/corridor space. The model shows the whole of the baths, an outdoor colonade on the left, a series of rooms on the lower left, a large room for clothes changing just left of bottom middle, the heated rooms progressing in an upward line, and another one visible as a round bulge to the right from the main complex. A rectangle to the right was a swimming pool. A diagonal line running between the pool and main building, running down away from them both, is the baths' wastewater drain.

A hand sewn book, Coptic method with dark green threaded stitches visible across the spine. The cover is a creamy grey, with clover and other field plants depicted in simple styles, in green, dark blue, white, with orange berries.

The ebbing away of the lunar eclipse as seen from Belgium -- the moon's disk is missing its right edge, and the edge of the shadow describes the arc of the Earth's umbra, with a haze from the thin cover of clouds.
