Radishes are the Schrodinger's cat of vegetables. They contain no spicy chemicals on their own. They only taste spicy because when you bite them you damage their cells, releasing a sulfur compound and an enzyme that breaks it down. The result is AITC—the same chemical in wasabi and mustard.
