I decided to let myself be distratced by a game jam for November ( #GitHubGameOff ). Making the 2d waves is fun, as is re-learning #pixijs, #matterjs, #peerjs.

The goal is to make a #p2p #pvp game where you fire cannons at each other. Like Scorched Earth / Worms + Sea of Thieves.

Progress is slow but steady. Rudimentary combat ⚔️, a few monsters 👹 (maybe placeholders), and a preview of transportation options 🏇 (sorry, no landspeeders).

My Ultima-1-like game now lists all commands that will (one day) be possible #screenshotsaturday

Given the meaning of IDIC, it should be fine to alter its symbol however you want. You can fit the triangle into the Codex in a few ways. Quick sketches...

I have some pixely sprites for a spearman, city, village, and few other things not yet implemented. You can walk around... and that's it for now!

Progress on #WULF ( #Ultima 1 clone/framework): Text can now be displayed at the bottom (with word wrapping), and tiles can be displayed at the top.

Task 1 for #Ultima #WULF: print some "hello world" that looks nice. Sadly getting an Apple II font to look nice by default is a struggle with #Javascript canvas. 😒

I found these experiments in an old folder: a custom map of The Dark Unknown, and a screenshot of a prototype #Ultima -like game I was working on. I am thinking it is time to revisit the idea...

Feedback is rare on submissions to small game jams, but the #Quilt #thetooljam feedback has been positive, so I'm planning to add an export feature and fix a bug. If it gets any more comments on itch, I may take it farther.

The idea is that you make a small map, and others map maps, and you stitch them together into one big (possibly incoherent) world.

I decided to make it #Gameboy themed so it would feel like a piece of hardware for the theme. (Not the exact dimensions.)

I no longer try to prepare too much for game jams. It's more fun to be surprised at the theme and struggle to come up with a game design.
