Germany's eco-tax reform led to sizable reductions not only in carbon emissions but also in harmful local air pollutants. Benefits accrued disproportionately to lower-income and more polluted areas.

Check out this great paper by @felixschaumann.bsky.social with @edualastrue.bsky.social out now in @pnas.org that integrates climate science with climate economics to study the social cost of carbon implications of reduced AMOC weakening. Super impressive work for a first PhD chapter👇
🚨 First PhD paper in @pnas.org 🥳
🌊 @edualastrue.bsky.social and I looked at how much less CO2 will be taken up by the ocean if the #AMOC weakens - and how this reduced ocean carbon uptake affects the social cost of CO2 emissions.

Check out this thread by @climatefran.bsky.social on our new paper in @pnas.org out today providing most comprehensive (i.e. still incomplete) evidence on the social cost of CO2 (SCC), with a meta-analysis + expert survey & a combination of elements of both to generate a “synthetic SCC” (mean≈$280)👇
Excited to announce a new @pnas.org publication on the Social Cost of Carbon. We integrate evidence from the literature and expert survey to provide an SCC distribution inclusive of both parametric and structural uncertainties. Our mean 2020 value is $283 per ton CO2

Many thanks to @aeajournals.bsky.social for highlighting our research providing a first systematic account of expert recommendations on carbon prices (globally & across almost 40 countries), and to all respondents for lending us their time & expertise 🙏 @frikknesje.bsky.social @cenunihh.bsky.social
There is a strong consensus among subject-matter experts that a uniform global carbon price should be higher than the existing global average, say researchers at University of Hamburg, University of Copenhagen, and FernUniversität in Hagen. #econsky
