While in college, during a long weekend hang, myself and buds had the bright idea to improvise a recipe for 'beer pancakes' using Leinenkugel's Berry Weiss.

Every time Bari pops in the news I get flashbacks to those, the worst pancakes I've ever eaten.

Well it's not correct but it is a good visual for my feelings towards Blender atm

Current workflow is simplified svg -> import to Blender as curves -> convert to mesh -> weep at what Blender's doing to my boys

Folks who've gone from detailed GIS files to Blender... how on earth do you prep an svg so it can actually become a usable polygon and not a mesh of pain

For my own part, proudly sported an old Isle Royale shirt all today. Granted it's only tangentially related from it's shared home in the great lake.

Was just in Louisville and loved seeing all the painted signage downtown. The personality! How well each fits each of the surfaces!

Highs and lows. Iggy Pop should have had a secondary career as a character actor, Jafar Panahi is a powerhouse director, horror movies should take more risks.

Strong kinship with the commercially-minded but shotgun approach these artists are taking. OWL FRAME! Hot date with a pumpkin man! An army of pumpkin children will march towards your daughters in space!

Been mildly surprised how few books there are collecting the best of em'. Found this one awhile ago and it's full of all sorts of incredible 1900 versions of the selfie setup and whimsy. Maybe I'm just googling wrong.

Just gotta be extra sensitive to hue, saturation, and tone. Work backwards from saturation/darkness = more. Color Oracle is a blessing here, giving a b/w view that better reveals how close the values actually are.

Feel like I picked this up from Laris Karklis (one of his maps shown here), but I get a sense data viz overcorrected on avoiding rainbow gradients. Particularly for one-offs, you can use a surprising # of colors! Here the extremes pop way better than if it was just light blue -> dark blue.

Spent this morning making a gradient for a map showing Hurricane Melissa's forecast rainfall, pretty chuffed with how it turned out.

Favorite automated-content-derived-from-Linkedin is still this re-pub of my hiring announcement at the Post. Just yoinked my profile picture which at the time was rotated in an act of rebellion and ran it as is uncropped.

Found a site that's eaten a bunch of public Linkedin's and spat out ai-generated bios, complete with FAQ's that also spin yarns based on that profile.

Makes me thankful I stopped putting detailed info on that site, as it really reveals how vapid this stuff can be when there isn't data for it.

Reminded of the fella from my hometown that got arrested because he accosted a couple of guys for speaking Spanish when they were actually speaking Hebrew.

Racial profiling is dumb! It's a dumb way to make decisions that hurts a whole lot of people just trying to live their lives.

Documentary artists making a home in the forgotten depths of the mall (it's phenomenal), quirky Man vs. Mayor flick (also fantastic), some misses, and a delightful amateur fantasy adventure that dreams bigger than it's capacity but manages to rule anyway (shot near DC in VA too!).

None of them ended with the subjects flying off into the sunset, ala' Pigeon Man, sadly, but it's a wild niche to dig into for a minute.
