Trying to find a happy medium between staying informed with what’s happening in the United States and also not letting it completely consume and exhaust me. I feel like I’ve been in fight or flight since Inauguration Day, probably also why I read so much this month. It’s my only escape from it all 🥲

January was a great reading month in terms of numbers, I don’t think I’ve ever read 6 books this quickly before. I enjoyed about half of them, I’d say.

Also, I only read acowar to get closure on the series and I plan on googling the remaining books because🖕🏼SJM.

I’m ready for February 💖

And the list is ready! This is a list I call, THE BLACK CANON, it is a list of the top 50 Black novels, poetry, stage plays & non-fiction you need in your personal library. #booksky

We MUST archive the words of Black folks and the history that is in danger of being erased.

Downloaded the Tome app just to delete it a day later lol. It’s flooded with Acotar and Onyx Storm enthusiasts like, I’ll pass thanks though!!

I’m loving the community here on #booksky anyways. So much more mindful and diverse 🤌🏻

Banned Books that everyone should read:

Book 7 of 2025 💫

I finished reading acowar for book 6, but I no longer support the author so I won’t be posting about that one. I won’t be finishing the series either, maybe I’ll google what happens but honestly I don’t even care to know.

On to a better fantasy series, like this one!

I recently continued reading ACOWAR after I dnf’d the series last year, just to find out the author is problematic. I already own the books so it’s no money in her pockets whether I finish the series or not, but I don’t know if I’m able to separate the art from the artist or if I even want to now.

Book 5 of 2025 is The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden. She’s looking for the perfect man, he’s looking for the perfect victim. Did not expect the plot twist at the end of this one! A great psychological thriller, I inhaled this book in one sitting. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ on Fable #booksky

Book 4 of 2025 was Diary of Murders by Sarah Cook. It follows two doctors with wicked desires, while also following a mystery killer loose in the streets of London. Lots of spice and lots of death paired with a gripping plot made this an easy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ on Fable. It’s a must read. #booksky

Book 3 of 2025 was Logan by Liz Gavin. It follows an aspiring singer who falls in love with a rockstar with a dark past. It was kind of giving A Star Is Born vibes but not near as good. It wasn’t terrible, but I was not a fan of the writing or “spicy” scenes. It was very corny. ⭐️⭐️ on Fable #booksky

Book 2 of 2025 was The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. What a fantastic thriller this book is! It gives two POV, one being a psych patient and the other the psychologist treating her. I love the way this story is told and how it unravels into the most insane plot twist. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ on Fable #booksky

My first book of 2025 was Sewer Rat by Meera Masen (Iona Pen.) A very short read of less than 100 pages, the MC struggles with bullying and mental health issues and seeks to get revenge. Blood, guts, and a huge plot twist made this a really intriguing short story. I rated it ⭐️⭐️⭐️ on Fable. #booksky
