My good and faithful stove did me one last service, and together we finished getting the beeswax on my hag tapers for Samhain. I find them very pleasing objects. If I remember I will try to get a video of one burning, since I imagine it’s something to behold. 🔥

The yellow plum experiment is strained and bottled. Hopefully a liquid tonic of memories of Harvest, to warm and illuminate against those winter days that feel endlessly white. Well-pleased.

I don’t know why these please me so much, but having more means I might actually burn one this Samhain.

Homemade rhubarb liqueur - today was bottling day. Worth the effort!

Since they removed the tree and our flowerbed is now in full sun, my lilies started blooming last Friday, and will be done by this Friday. They have always started a little earlier than some, but used to bloom for 3 weeks or so. Sigh. We all miss the tree’s gracious shade. But they are still pretty.

This is what they left us with. And we have this much because? There’s metal in the trunk, where added for support 25+ years ago. So much for the risk of it falling down. It needed the big branches overhanging the hydro wires trimmed, for sure, but we’re left with this. No shade. Scorched earth.
