Many (most?) of our peer nations do routinely pay ransoms or otherwise negotiate to have their citizens released, though, and for that matter so do we occasionally when it suits us. “We don’t negotiate with terrorists” is rhetoric

I will specifically push back on one thing: much as I think Schumer sucks and needs to go, the modal poster’s mental model of what any Dem Senate Minority Leader can or could do does not strike me as realistic

Sure, but I live in suburban DC. It’s always packed, and we do have gun ranges and stuff here, but this isn’t a peak gun-humper area either

We just ratified a union contract at my employer, and I have this sinking feeling that when it gets to the board they’re going to balk at some of the provisions because of increasing health expenses since the negotiation

How on earth could something as complicated and artificial as IQ not require hundreds, thousands of SNPs to even make a dent? (And that’s assuming you think the intelligence-measuring exercise is worth anything in the first place, which, aside from diagnosing disability, it mostly isn’t)

There are many diseases that we know are strongly heritable but can’t figure out why genetically, and others that we used to think were caused by 1 SNP that can really be caused by several, sometimes with very different presentations
(As an example of the latter, Google adult onset CF. Wild)
