I just wrote that, didn't I. Insomnia: twisting perspective since the beginning of time. Perspective usually returns to its original state. It's elastic. Like cats.

The elasticity of cats is well known in physics, which is why they came to Schrödinger's mind for his thought-experiment that had nothing to do with elasticity but had a lot to do with a cat.

When I was a kid I didn't realize mayonnaise was a condiment with a faint but discernible taste. I thought of it as a kind of edible glue that held various foods together.

I could tell you the most popular one in the Navy when I was in, but it wouldn't go over well on this site...

omg you're right. I knew that part was hormones, but I hadn't made the leap to its affecting other dry places.

I searched "can menopause make your eyes dry" and it turns out that yes, it certainly can.

I'll let you go look yourself so you can choose which articles you'd like to read, but apparently it's very common.

Fair.

Said all that to say this: misunderstanding phatics gets you avoided. I think when people say "sorry to hear that" they usually mean "I acknowledge your loss but have nothing to say about it However, I don't want you to think I wouldn't care, if I actually knew you well."
April 17, 2024 at 6:39 AM
TIL the word "phatics." Good to have a name for them. I take them way too literally. If I say "sorry to hear that" I am. I try to say "I apologize" for the other use, unless it's something like bumping into someone. If I ask you how you're doing, I want to know. Yes, I'm an anomaly.

The teeth, my god, the perfect, identical teeth. As if someone had handed out dentures at the door.

I didn't know this, and I think it's very important to know and to inform people about. Do you have a link or a case reference or anything? I would be very grateful. Thank you
