After a year of work I've finally released my adventure game. It's called Maura and Ash, and it's designed for MS-DOS. You can download it or play it in the browser right now!

For the past year, I've been making an adventure game for DOS. It's been fun, but it's now ready to ship. Tonight we finish the few last-minute tasks and hit the big switch!

A few days ago I released a patch which replaces the unhinged movement system in Tex Murphy: Under A Killing Moon with mouselook + WASD. Turns out the sequel is pretty much the same, so here's a mod for The Pandora Directive.
Feast your eyes on this side-by-side comparison

I got sick of the bonkers control scheme in Tex Murphy: Under a Killing Moon and patched in mouselook + WASD.

(This footage looks shocking if you've suffered through the normal velocity-based mouse controls, honest!)

Depressing that the solution offered by the commissioner is more surveillance. A "range of behavioural and account signals", which is definitely scientific and not just blocking everyone marked as liking Roblox and Beyblades

The Guardian sort of mentions it in paragraph 12 of the story, but doesn't really frame it with the gravity it deserves tbh

After being tipped off by @philsalv.bsky.social I am now a member of the Pretzel Pete club.

Can't wait to try out the 16-player multiplayer with all the other Pretzelheads out there

Today I learned about "The Quest", a formerly lost CD from 1995 produced by Kidsoft and animated by Cartoon Network Studios. I don't know what the brief was, but for some reason the intro is full of... Myst jokes? Was this meant to be a little something for the adults?

That was enjoyable! I can't get over how the pigeon game is basically the same puzzle as this, except designed in a way that makes sense and encourages you to try things and isn't 100% arbitrary

Just realised it's been ten whole years since the first commit of this little guy.

Mr. Crowbar started out as a framework for parsing/writing binary formats, then slowly grew to become a bench full of hand tools for dumping and scanning things from the command line.

I spent some time fixing this series to run in ScummVM. First time I've ever seen these games and the cursed frog might stay with me for life

In about 40 mins (1100 UTC): I will be unboxing this pristine copy of BAR-MIN-SKI: CONSUMER PRODUCT, the unseen prequel to the Encyclopedia of Clamps by De-Lux'o Consumer Productions, forever ruining its value. We'll try and make it work in ScummVM.

On the bright side, I -finally- managed to fix the timer code in my DOS adventure game engine, so the system timer can run at 16KHz (without crashing!) instead of the miserly DOS default of 18.2Hz. Which is fast enough to abuse the PC speaker to play back sampled audio.
