Exactly! IMHO, creating guardrails is no less parenting than love and comfort. Being gentle but sure, "no, I'm not playing that game" did the trick for us. The tough part is that eventually is the best you got.

Our oldest exhibited similar behavior. We learned about a technique called extinguishing.
If she was sitting on the floor screaming bloody murder, we'd just walk away, ignoring her.
Definitely brutal on both parties, but eventually successful.

I'm afraid the opposite is true. "an aphid" native to Europe drove the disease phylloxera into the native vinifera rootstock epidemically.
American grape vine rootstock, of which there are three, is resistant, was imported and vines grafted onto it, thus saving European vine growing.

I guess we're belligerently and joyfully different here in Vermont, but the Republican Governor instructed the Republican Attorney General to join this suit! She did.
