Acrid rancor reigns in the gaping expanse stretched between father and daughter. Where familial affection should bloom, now dwells only choking weeds of enmity and apathy. Rough, and uninvited, his touch lands on her like a gravestone into freshly fallen snow, his shallow breaths ticking like the winding down of a clock, tolling sonorously toward his impending oblivion.

“You wretched, crooked little creature,” says he. But the Dark God’s triumphant, blood-smeared knife of a grin betrays his play at condemnation. Something in that feral expression calls to a ruthlessly suppressed part of her, beckons to that dormant ferocity lurking deep within the murkiest waters of her soul. That grin of his will be her undoing— of this she is certain. It is inevitable, her fall from grace into this creature’s divine debaucheries. And Evanor welcomes the euphoric numbness it promises.
