IM‑2 Athena: An Almost‑Successful South Polar Landing — Intuitive Machines Mission 2

My story on the recent Athena lunar mission

🚨I found the ill-fated @Int_Machines #IM2 #Athena lander using the #Chandrayaan2 OHRC and it shows some interesting patterns around the site where it hard landed. Exclusive story 👇 and I’ll share more detailed observations and my thoughts on this soon in my blog. (More pictures are storely below)

#NISAR separation from GSLV-F16 today. NASA confirms signal acquisition, solar panels deployed.

How it started vs How’s it going via x/ISROSpaceflight

NASA 🤝 ISRO
July 30, 2025 at 2:16 PM
With launch successful, ISRO waits until it starts receiving and processing 8 Terra Bytes of S-Band data and @nasajpl.bsky.social 35 Terra Bytes of L-Band data single a day!

Now that’s wealth of global data
July 30, 2025 at 1:24 PM
ISRO successfully launched and deployed NISAR in its intended orbit with a precision of ~2km to its desired placement.

A day after the launch of ispace 'RESILIENCE' ISRO
seems to have already started terrain analysis on the landing location using the highest resolition camera circling around the moon right now, Chandrayaan 2.

Image shows the latest released images of the target landing location of RESILIENCE.

The first German women in orbit, and the most exotic trajectory - except for those goimg to the Moon, of course - to date actually. Now let's see how much we're going to see and hear in the coming days; a ham radio contact is already planned for 7:28 UTC today: scicomm.xyz/@ARISS_Intl@...

this is kinda hard to tell with very limited public info. But, this is what I can interpret it. The Yaoki rover is completely hidden, but you can see the shadow as well as the illuminated regolith on the top left corner.

The tiny rover on board #IM2 Athena captured the broken leg of Athena (again!) and a mysterious debris off the lander. @yaoki_space has released the raw images - thanks!
here's the processed image.

A more non-oblique look at #IM2 Athena. This view you can clearly see the shadow casted by Athena.

First images of @Int_Machines #IM2 Athena from
@LRO_NASA Athena did land in a tiny crater than I originally imagined. Its more up north than the low illuminated areas I originally thought.

Athena is at 84.7906° S, 29.1957°E but there is a minor small uncertainty in that location.
March 11, 2025 at 8:43 AM
Here's my initial assessment of Intuitive Machines’ IM-2 mission Athena Landing site. There are at least 2 significant PSR's (<1Km2) (PSR1, PSR2 ) within 3km radius around the planned -84.78°, 29.13°E target landing site.

There are other smaller PSR's within the 3Km radius and the next...(1/3)

We made it to the Moon!

Blue Ghost is currently orbiting our nearest celestial neighbor! 🌖

It’s truly unbelievable to see our lander finally in orbit around the thing I’ve been looking at in the night sky for 35 years.

I can’t wait to get the chance to stick the landing in a few weeks!🧪

We just completed our Lunar Or it Insertion (LOI) maneuver!

That means Blue Ghost is now orbiting another celestial body and has left our home forever.

Good-bye Blue!🧪

Oh wow!
SLS is dead.
Boeing issued notifications as part of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, which requires US employers with 100 or more full-time employees to provide a 60-day notice in advance of mass layoffs or plant closings.

Boeing has informed its employees that NASA may cancel SLS contracts
The White House has not made a final decision yet on the large rocket.
