hello! Here’s a reluctant intro:

I’m a TV/media lawyer - a law & pop culture academic, psychology nerd, and published satirical writer. Currently procrastinating on a dark horror-comedy script.

Proud dork and a very silly human (to balance out the seriousness of the day job).
What a scrap!

Good one! Was very curious to see how NFuji does being brought up to this level. He is usually fighting in mid to lower makuuchi #kyushubasho2025

I ask you. What other sport offers such drama and sportsmanship while also offering a healthy heartwarming share of unadulterated cuteness?

It’s my birthday. Happy birthday to me. These photos suggest I’m a feral, glitter-soaked gothic goblin of the night, today I am, regrettably, a fragile Victorian child requiring nourishing broth, cuddles, and possibly a fainting couch. But I looked damn cute.

Please enjoy this moral deception…

I mean this is great if it can be implemented, but whilst they’re at it how about scrapping dynamic pricing bollocks too

My cousin has literally rerouted their Tokyo day today to swing by Ryōgoku to hunt for sumo merch purely to cheer me up. That’s peak cousin loyalty. The Yokozuna of cousins.

Feels a pertinent reminder to post this, in 2004 upon Greg Dykes departure from the BBC 10,000 staff members, me included, paid for an ad in a national newspaper highlighting the importance of the independence of the BBC... www.currybet.net/cbet_blog/20...
BBC staff advert in The Daily Telegraph
Today BBC staff placed a full page advert in The Daily Telegraph to assert their belief in the continued independence of the BBC, and to pay tribute to the work of Greg Dyke whilst he was Director-Gen...

So going to start a thread of good news stories (positive impacts imho) to counter the tide of terrible things - not here to debate but share with quoted sources etc:

When I was little, I always wanted to be a nurse (my love of music changed that!). I’m quite naturally a nurturing person. Today I gave mumma a subcutaneous injection which helps increase white blood cells after chemotherapy. Nurse skills unlocked! Sadly no longer have this outfit.

My cousin is currently on holiday in Japan and asked me what treats I want…I hope she has extra luggage capacity for the list I’m about to send her. But overwhelmingly I want this

No more assuming factual TV is easy and “just happens.” Behind every hour are layers of financing gymnastics, spreadsheets that defy physics, contracts and rights-clearances and enough negotiation to make lawyering qualify as an extreme sport. All before we’ve even picked up a camera.

Flowers from some lovely colleagues made me a little dewy eyed. Simple gestures make a whole lot of difference

Collective anxiety feels like a tide lately one ripple and suddenly we’re all swaying. I’m trying to stay grounded, breathe, and help the people around me steady themselves too. We can’t stop the waves, but we can keep each other from getting swept out.

Day4

Yasu is very deft at “hanmi”, keeping his body perpendicular to foe up close, giving foe less to hold onto and making him very hard to move.

Day 3 of Mum’s first chemo cycle and after a strong start, she’s struggling. Day 3 was always going to be the difficult one. Comforting a parent suffering is a heartbreak you can’t explain till you live it. I’m feeling a bit broken today, but onwards we go, there’ll be hard days and better ones.

The fact that the BBC has made serious culpable errors does not negate the point that there is a real and concerted right-wing media campaign to destroy it. Both points can be true at the same time and the campaign would not end even if the errors did.

This, but also adding that, incomprehensively to me, still in post is David Jordan, who's been the BBC's Director, of Editorial Policy & Standards since 2007, & surely should have been a ceremonial sacrifical lamb several 'scandals' ago. Should Davie & Turness have resigned over this, no.
Once every 20 years or so, the director-general of the BBC is forced to resign for being insufficiently rightwing. Alastair Milne in 1987. Greg Dyke in 2004. Tim Davie in 2025. The great irony is that the BBC was in all cases profoundly biased towards established power. But just not biased enough …

Mum started chemotherapy today, I’m so proud of her already. Me however, I’ve had so much coffee I think I’ve entered another dimension, felt my soul leave my body and I swear I can taste my eyeballs.
