“The joy—the stab of inconsolable longing—that animated his poetry and prose was on display in how he died…in full faith that this earthly realm is just a prelude to the next chapter of a greater story, a new and wondrous reality suffused with the deep magic of divine love.”

So good!
C. S. Lewis died 61 years ago today.

Lewis fully aware of his failing health, didn’t see his demise in tragic terms. His last months provide a model of Christian contentment in anticipation of eternal happiness.

Here's a look at his final days...

Reflecting on C.S. Lewis’s life and death today.

Up until my senior year in high school, I hated reading—absolutely abhorred it. But Lewis and my senior English teacher helped change that. Mrs. Eubanks would always say, “Every story is a retelling of the greatest story ever told.”

Ernst Käsemann was a German pastor who actually voted for Hitler, but became a fierce prophetic critic and part of the resistance.

So true! I wish I would have been taught this sooner. Much of ministry is resting in God, showing up when things are difficult, and keeping your heart soft enough to continue to love well those you serve.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit…”

From the outside looking in, the way of the Kingdom makes no sense, appearing weak and wanting. But from the inside lived out, the way of the Kingdom gives all to those who know they have nothing to offer, bringing blessing in this life and the life to come.

It is quite the fragile god who needs political power to preserve and enforce their will.

It is quite the powerful God who is born in poverty, partners with the poor, washes feet, heals the sick, advocates for the oppressed, is unjustly killed and still changes the entire world.
