I think local government in England could very easily 'work', but Westminster has to actually be willing to raise grant funding and allow borrowing

abolishing right to buy in England & Wales won't fix the issue overnight or be the One Weird Trick™, as we've seen in Scotland, but when social homes were sold off faster than they could be replaced, it feels pretty clear what is the single largest island in an archipelago of deincentives

The latter is a hard-limit on how far this Government can really go - losing Wales while being vaporised in Scotland and London will almost certainly end Starmer/Reeves; a badly received budget may well accelerate that as Labour seeks to course correct

You have two very serious pressure points: on the 26th in the coming week is an already quite contentious and nervy budget, while in May the local/devolved elections where Labour is looking at going backwards everywhere, which a poor budget will likely amplify

I feel - in my gut reaction - that raiding the purses of international students to fund UK students is not a solution and is just a junkie slapping their vein in anticipation of a fix

I know the answer is "yes" but he is really just stupid isn't he

I remember being told it was because of the Matt Ward (no relation?) stuff and reaction to the switch from WHFB/AoS in a close succession that convinced a management to make the switch

Compare/contrast to every "Labour have actually done a lot of good but their comms game!" post
November 23, 2025 at 1:07 PM
I think one big thing that made me leave the (national, I hung around in local until I left England) LibDems was how many people were convinced posting a chart listing all of the Coaltions achievements and saying "it's a comms issue!" Somehow negated the real harm the Coaltion did

Find Cummings interesting as he's a thoroughly disgraced public figure who has been trying to cope with a loss of political standing by becoming a freak weirdo altRight incel who has twitter fame and is a year away from posting about gooning as am act of enlightenment
