We’re going to see more of this ridiculous “they’re cancelling Christmas” narrative.
It’s basically Rage-Bait LAW from the 12th November, just as soon as Poppy Rage is over.
Try not to get sucked in👍🏼
It’s not good for your blood pressure to get so angry about imaginary problems

Maybe a Victorian Christmas Market is more your scene?
Or Theatre or Panto?
Or a Christmas Tree festival?
There’s plenty more. You get the idea.

But maybe that’s not enough lights for you.
So how about 10 days where Sheffield’s historic landmarks are light up with different light projections celebrating the City?

You can spend the weekend at the ‘Crackers for Christmas’ event.
A free family-friendly weekend of activities, music, storytelling, crafts and panto.
This is the “replacement” for the light ‘switch on’.
I think everyone will be ok 👍🏼

And this is the reality across the country.
We used to have one “light switch on” in early December and then some lights and decorations around the city.
It was lovely, but it was a one off
Now we have over a month of events, markets, lights and festivities instead.

But it was cancelled in 2023 because of renovation works in the area.
Other events happened instead.
In then in 2024 and this year they realised what a headache and health and safety nightmare it is to force so many people into a small space for a brief period of time

As for the “cancelled Christmas Lights”
Yes, they’re aren’t having a Christmas Light switch on event, and haven’t had that for a couple of years.
They used to have everyone gather in one place with a D-list celebrity to do the count down and big switch on.

Firstly, let’s address the “Muslim run council” nonsense.
Leader of Sheffield Council is Tom Hunt.
Yes, there are a couple of Muslim people on the council. And then lots of non-Muslims too.
Ibby Ullah (in the OP) is not *The* councillor for Sheffield. That’s not how councils work🙄

It blows my mind that there are real people who see a post like this and actually believe the whole “Christmas is being cancelled by Muslims” BS 🙄
Let’s have a quick look at what’s happening to Sheffield so you can put your Express reading uncle’s mind at ease!😆

A report by Meta:
People expect diversity
Prefer brands that support DEI
Have better ad recall with DEI
A UN Women report found inclusive brands:
Sell more
Have higher costumer loyalty
Valued more highly
And Lloyd’s found 👇🏼
So the exact opposite of “Go Woke, Go Broke”🤣

It attributed much of the rise in their representation to the increase in “montage ads” where you can cover lots of different “types” of people in one ad.
Quantity doesn’t not mean quality.

2/3 say DEI is important to them
2/5 are personally affected by issues relating to DEI
52% actively support DEI
77% agree DEI is important in advertising - an increase since 2023
It’s almost as if Twitter and Reform are totally out of touch🧐

The Times did the same thing.
Used an ad containing a mixed-race actress to showcase the “over-representation” of ethnic minorities.
The irony being that it was a still from another award winning advert for age inclusion covering perimenopause.

And then used a still from an award winning advert for inclusion of disabled people to highlight the “over-representation” part because the woman in it black🙄
But it does allow us to highlight the flaw in the argument.

The right wing media ecosystem absolutely jumped on the Channel 4 report into representation in advertising - in particular the stat on page 19 of the 49 page report (yup, that was it!) - that 51% of adverts featured a black person.

Let’s take a look at the whole “there are too many black people on TV” thing, shall we?
After Pochin claimed Black people in TV adverts “made her mad”, all her supporters tried to use 👇🏼 as their excuse for why she was somehow justified in her overt racism.
Spoiler - she isn’t! 🤨

And the Daily Mail knew this. They mention it twice.
And they went for that shocking headline anyway.
