Last month, the credit ratings agency S&P downgraded Oakland due to it's budget deficit. The ratings agency identified police overspending as the most notable reason for expenditures outpacing revenues.

Follow up on my #plastics reporting: the CO2-equivalent greenhouse gas emissions from producing 3 billion tonnes of plastic could "use up half of the remaining 1.5 degree C emissions budget by 2050," if we don't revisit our reliance on plastic products. (🗝️ from Nat Bullard's annual prezzo.)
