And we have a cover! I can't wait for everyone to be able to get their hands on my translation of Tatiana Tibuleac's incredible novel The Summer My Mother Had Green Eyes. It comes out on January 13 from @deepvellum.bsky.social.

It's not too late to wish my fellow human translators Happy International Translation Day! (literal Romanian google translation reads, "can I drink fatback"). Also a good moment to remind everyone that translators are writers.

A highlight this week was a fascinating talk on anthropology and biomedicine from Raluca Nagy - and a long awaited meeting! I translated a sample from her novel for the European Prize for Literature in 2022 and now learned how her fieldwork inspired it.

Mood going into this election weekend here in Romania. Hoping we choose a president that will keep us connected to the rest of Europe, who will behave respectfully and act wisely and honestly for the common good. Vreau înainte, nu înapoi.

The pro-Europe march in Bucharest has started. I love seeing this support ahead of the upcoming elections. Romania becoming part of the EU is part of what allowed me to return here.

I had an amazing time at the @penamerica.bsky.social World Voices Festival. The invitation to speak on the translation and censorship panel gave me the chance to reflect on the origins of the myth of "market demands" when it comes to translated literature.
