Donald Trump has been renovating the White House with marble and gold and throwing Great Gatsby-themed parties with billionaires, while millions of Americans are at risk of starvation because he needed two court orders to tell him to disburse food stamps. He doesn’t care about working people.

With two different judges ordering the Trump Administration to disburse SNAP benefits, Republicans can’t blame Democrats for millions of Americans going hungry during this government shutdown. It’s bad enough they voted to cut SNAP funding by $186 billion earlier this year.

The Trump Administration is threatening to fire tens of thousands of federal workers while the government is shut down. The problem is that would clearly be illegal under existing law.

DOJ’s politically motivated investigations into George Soros and other perceived enemies of Donald Trump is the actual weaponization of government that Republicans lied about happening in the Biden era. Those lies were a pretext to destroy our democracy once Trump took office. I warned about this.

President Trump is bringing the U.S. economy closer and closer to a recession. In addition to raising prices for consumers, his tariffs have resulted in the lowest levels of job creation in years and caused companies to reduce their investments in the United States.

The Republican agenda of higher costs and taking away constitutional rights isn’t going so well. That’s why town halls are off the rails and Senators like Joni Ernst and Tom Tillis are not seeking reelection. It’s a shame the rest of America has to pay the price for their lack of integrity.

It’s only in America that we have an epidemic of mass shootings. And the discussion around these shootings is only political because Republicans in Congress and the White House oppose commonsense, lifesaving measures like an assault weapons ban and universal background checks.

The Trump Administration is obviously engaged in a cover-up of the Epstein files. The recent firing of federal prosecutor Maurene Comey, who put Ghislaine Maxwell behind bars, is likely part of that.

Last election, billions of dollars were spent to tell the lie that Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress would focus on lowering costs. Instead, they’re about to enact legislation that makes life less affordable for middle-class and low-income Americans. Democrats should keep talking about this.

Whether it’s Josh Hawley or Mike Lawler, you can’t listen to a word they say. Just watch how they vote. They’re voting to throw 17 million people off their health insurance, and to take food away from children, because they believe only rich people and corporations deserve government assistance.

The most important thing for Democrats to talk about right now is the millions of Americans about to lose their health care, and the low-income children about to lose access to food, because of the bill Republicans in Congress are about to pass.

When white northerners saw images of southern Blacks being brutalized by segregationists on TV, it galvanized support for civil rights. Today, footage of undocumented immigrants and some U.S. citizens being mistreated are turning the country against Trump’s immigration policies.

Immigration is now a losing issue for Republicans in a variety of contexts. That’s because Donald Trump has been focused on deporting U.S. citizens and college students instead of the violent criminals he said he would.

Elon Musk has been awful these past few years. I would know—he spent more to defeat me than he did any other House candidate in America. It made a difference. But if we are going to win big elections as Democrats, we have to be a big tent party willing to take in people we sometimes disagree with.

The most popular Democrats aren’t throwing around the word “progressive” every chance they get, understanding it means different things to different people. They’re talking about building an economy that lifts up the working class and standing up to Donald Trump and Elon Musk. That’s unifying.

Sure, it will be a challenge for individuals who served in Joe Biden’s administration to constantly have to answer questions regarding what they knew about his health and when, but the Democratic nominee in 2028 is likely to have no ties to Washington anyway. Americans hate the DC establishment.

The most important thing to know about Mike Pence getting the Profile in Courage Award is that the Republican Party has become so morally and democratically bankrupt, simply following the Constitution is now a remarkable event. And still, Pence minimizes President Trump’s assault on the rule of law.

President Trump’s first 100 days have been a disaster. When he’s not crashing the economy with his reckless use of tariffs, he’s deporting U.S. citizens and defying the Supreme Court.

I was asked to grade the performance of Democrats in Congress. I gave House Democrats a C/C+ and Senate Democrats an F for doing business as usual and freely giving away their votes to a regime that is destroying our democracy and crashing the economy. Democrats must fight harder.
