Okay not *only* about oil, also about showing dominance and probably some sort of petty grievance in there too. But definitely ALSO helpful to some US oil majors (notably Exxon and Chevron)
Hi hello the Venezuela stuff is entirely about oil, both in Venezuela and in Guyana (where Venezuela is laying claim to the oil in what is now Exxon’s largest oilfield, which Chevron has also bought into). It is the bidding of US oil majors and it’s not remotely subtle.

I wrote about how Trump is dismantling the country's disaster forecasting infrastructure. But this isn't going to stop disasters from piling up -- quite the contrary.
Flash Floods and Climate Policy
As the death toll climbs in Texas, the Trump Administration is actively undermining the nation’s ability to predict—and to deal with—climate-related disasters.

A few days ago, I needed to have my VW towed. Tow truck drivers are a special kind of human. Mine was from a southern state and had a nice biblical name. He wore jeans and square-toed cowboy boots. And he is a veteran.

This incredible story, by @npr.org, puts a human face, actually 132 human faces, on the war on Gaza: apps.npr.org/gaza-buildin...
One family. One attack. 132 names. A Gaza investigation.
