Of course, ‘psychosis’ is not a DSM or ICD diagnosis, so we don’t tend to worry about construct validity or inter-rater reliability. But what different providers mean when they say a child does or does not have psychosis has real implications for the child’s care.

In 1972, Rutter wrote, “the term ‘childhood schizophrenia’ has outlived its usefulness.”
