I am surrounded by people who are outsourcing their own thinking to ChatGPT and they are quickly and obviously becoming dependent on it for even the most banal tasks. Once again, the "figuring it out" is the important part. Yes, you can use a crane to lift weights but you will not get stronger

This was an absolute joy to write! I loved speaking with John Perdew about his work and career.

One thing that struck me was that he viewed this honor as not just for him, but for the entire field of DFT.

Many of us are really feeling helpless. This feeling is why I started @skypeascientist.bsky.social 8 years ago. We were doing the exact same thing then (currently feels worse?).

Let's talk about the history of pi (π) and the methods used to approximate it!

We start with the Babylonians (~2000 BCE), who used π = 3 for architectural projects, or in at least one instance, π = 25⁄8 = 3.128, which is within 0.5% of the actual value.
