its actually kind of hard to translate succinctly, but i used to go with "bond point" iirc. it's close to valency (valence in the US) but something with a valency of 7 would have one 結合手 for example. this metaphor/model is seemingly used in japan's education but not where I grew up at least

even the boring business documents need attention wrt making sure terminology is consistent and follows the company's preferences, as well as the other typical considerations when translating into another language
