We then conducted polls before and after to see who convinced whom and whether editors would accept the paper or send it back for revisions. It was a fun activity, and I would do it again!

Last year in our graduate seminar, we had everyone read a paper. Right before the JC, students were randomly assigned to advocate, adversary, or editor roles. Advocates were only allowed to promote the paper, adversaries only to criticize it, and editors asked questions neutrally.
