Can’t be repeated often enough

‘The UK’s creative industries are vital to the economy. Valued at £124bn, they are worth more than the life sciences, aerospace and automotive industries combined. Arts and culture alone contribute an impressive £34.6bn.’

messaging old friends with memories of seeing Eraserhead, Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart at the cinema together - hard to explain now how thrilling it was to be seventeen and to fall in that space. All our changes were there.

I don’t think “the kids” can understand how radical it was that Twin Peaks was on network tv. It premiered to *34.6 million* viewers. Crazy, man. Agent Cooper was on to something when he said “Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen.” RIP
Director-writer David Lynch, who radicalized American film with with a dark, surrealistic artistic vision in films like “Blue Velvet” and “Mulholland Drive” and network television with “Twin Peaks,” has died. He was 78. bit.ly/40is3yQ

conservation is about loss- documenting it, imagining it, attempting to manage it- so this collage is an *extra* example- types of loss listed in words set down by now obsolete machinery, and the passage of time described in the discoloured adhesive

thinking about breathing in the essence of JMW Turner by smelling his sketchbooks reminded me of this video, where the makeup artist Lisa Eldridge 'eats' molecules of Audrey Hepburn ♥️ a material culture/makeup clash - pure heaven. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gkK...

I'm planning a session exploring artworks via touch and smell. For the invitations I'd like to capture some Turner sketchbook scent in tiny glass vials - is this likely possible? If I left the smelliest book in a sealed plexi box for a while with an open vial would some scent just sort of fall in?

prompted by @jeremymillar.bsky.social’s recent Turner tweet I got this out for a closer look. The light brown splodge - I like to think he dipped his finger in the bloody waves and just splatted it on the paper.
