Anyway, got my license renewed, went to the weed shop for a treat. Man, inflation just doesn't seem to touch weed prices? Never been cheaper. I kinda hate the vibe of legal weed shops, but i do like the prices.

But yeah, a few times, these guys have managed to fund extremely expensive experiments to dig reaaaaaaly fucking deep. They get a few barrels of hydrocarbons, claim its abiogenic oil, and inevitably its just contaminants from the oil based lubricants used on the drilling rig.

Some of this seems to relate to young earth creationist stuff, the need to have an explanation for oil and coal that doesn't relate to millions of years of evolution and extinction. Some of it comes out of real astrophysics, in that we've detected planets and moons (like titan) with methane.

Was reading about various expirements to drill really deep into the earth. And there is this very odd field of proponents of the "Abiogenic Petroleum" hypothesis that proposes some (or perhaps all) oil and gas is not the result of dead organisms, but a naturally occurring geologic phenomenon.
