All they needed was one. They got seven. Goin to their knees with the rest of the Reichstag so fast they got carpet burns. They didn't have to face down armed maniacs. They didn't have to risk disappearing into unmonitored prisons. All they had to do was vote. Wouldn't do it.

We're not a suffering people. We came here to get away from all that. No kings that had to keep us submissive. No national church to punish us for what we believed. This was ours. We would govern ourselves. It was never supposed to happen here. We forgot why we came here. And we forgot how to fight.

Assuming that there will be future elections, is anybody thinking about what kind of "reconstruction amendments" we'll need to prevent future executive branch abuses of power?

We call upon the German people, whose rulers we were, to return from this road which, according to the law and justice of God, had to lead us and our system into disaster and which will lead everyone into disaster who tries to walk on it, or continue on it, everywhere in the whole world. -H. Frank

We're on p191 trying to decide if the Kirk assassination = Reichstag fire. You're skipping to p249 for the Civil Service Act. Wrong! You skipped the purge on p213. If you want to destroy America in 8 years, you need to stick to William Shirer's time-tested manual. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

I'm confused. I'm trying to follow a long in "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich." Was the Kirk assassination our Reichstag fire and Venezuela our Poland? Or are we still waiting on an actual arson event?

After seven years, I've recovered and moved on. And then my dreams make a liar of me. Last night, I drove her somewhere; got out of the car and just let someone else drive the car away. Every nightmare makes it feel like it happened yesterday.

"What the German people regret, you soon find, is not that they made this war, but that they lost it... There is no sense of guilt or even remorse. Most Germans you talk to merely think they have been unlucky. -William Shirer, "End of a Berlin Diary" 11/3/1945
