The chick seems fine and was returned to the nest. The parents are understandably being very cautious but I expect them to return shortly.
Now I need to construct some kind of deterrent to avoid this in the future.

This black rat snake decided Eastern Bluebird chicks would be yummy in this hot afternoon. Unfortunately for it, this nest box has a camera and on the back porch. I saw the parents characteristically hovering in front of the box and my wife pulled up the app to see the snake already in the box.
