So... how do you have a book with magical trials when the trials themselves are the most lackluster part of the story?
Yeah this was giving a solid MEH out of 5.
I did like Blackwell though! He was a charming MMC. Setting was cool too. But... that's about it.

My main gripe is the quality of the edges. The print job is not great and the colors look faded already and remind me more of watercolors than actual inked pages.
Mate’s job isn’t as affected since it’s mostly greens but Bride’s definitely is. Any color close to Black doesn’t even look black.

The actual book covers and spines are also gorgeous. Especially Bride. I love the sparkle sparkle the nightscape gives.

I am actually shocked at the quality of the dust jackets. From a visual perspective only they look like they’re 2.5D. Super pretty and high quality.

I finished This Monster of Mine by Shalini Abeyseka yesterday!
It had one of the most unique plots I have read in a long time! A political romantasy inspired by Ancient Rome with some Frankenstein vibes.
