Is the creation of a spray shark-repellant, as seen in Batman the Movie (1966), scientifically possible?

In all seriousness, are there any odors that sharks will actively avoid? Would be interesting if they've adapted to avoid oil, for example. Thanks!

The original poster had found out that their training grant supporting their dissertation work was rescinded. The reasoning provided was unrelated to their work. I am unsure why the post was deleted.

"Ask a Scientist" type events where we hang out at our local breweries with science enthusiasts and talk about what we do.
Maybe another thing could be working with our local habitat for humanity branches as volunteers - to have a direct positive impact that the commuycam see?
