Also I don't know how they managed to do this, but the tray table latch is super hard to operate??

Next Gen Acela vs Amfleet II legroom
Fair, Amfleet II is for long distance, but it's a huge difference

I was happy to be able to choose the Next Gen Acela when booking my ticket, but I would guess that frequent passengers on the NE corridor now intentionally choose the old trains. All of this is very unfortunate.

Despite all I've heard, I've been excited to finally ride these trains after watching them sit in Philadelphia for years. But things are not good. Passengers are unhappy with the seats, it's hard to walk through the train without falling, train staff is stressed.

This is a fascinating ride to observe a couple of months after these trainsets started running. I shared a table in the cafe car with an engineer from Alstom measuring *something* on the high speed section. Then an Amtrak tech had to assist with the toilet doors not locking. Wild.

We hit a top speed of 159 miles per hour on the high speed section between New Brunswick and Trenton, but the ride is BUMPY. Shaking left and right like a boat.

I did get a great view of the new Portal North Bridge over the Hackensack. NJ transit windows are so dirty nowadays that I haven't seen the construction so clearly in a while

Table seating in business class is TIGHT. Luckily no one is sitting across from me, but my seat mates had to verbally negotiate how to place their legs to fit.

Immediate observations: PA is too quiet. Seat reservation displays don't work. Announcement screens don't work either.

This ramp looks a bit off. Could this be why we're late already?

This Next Gen Acela Avelia Liberty trainset was about ten minutes late arriving, and we depart with 13 minutes delay.
