Last school year, I set out to batch plan and get ahead with lesson planning, but I got derailed pretty quickly. This year, I’m going to really commit to doing it and it’s going to start this summer, in the weeks leading up to my first day with students, 8/27! #langchat #edusky
You may have heard this story in the news (her connection to Karoline Leavitt). She actually graduated from the high school where I teach and studied 2 languages. gofund.me/76f6d74a0

I know that creating a grammar worksheet is probably not best practice, according to the Proficiency-Based Instruction: Teaching Grammar for Proficiency, but I think my creation does hit on some of the “good” practices outlined in the book. #langchat (1/)

Hey, @stacywitkowski.bsky.social @mrfishersays.bsky.social @languageley.bsky.social! A presenter at MaFLA did his presentation about referential & affective structured input and quoted heavily from the grammar book! Don’t think he’s on Bluesky, but maybe I can track him down to join the discussion?

Love this so much! ⬇️
“I am not assessing your work to grade you. I am assessing your work to help you. I am simply joining you in your learning, so together we can build better.”

I used to think teaching was assigning and grading the work.

Now I believe it is framing and supporting the work.

I know I’m reading this book, but sometimes I wonder: Does direct grammar instruction and learning grammar rules have a place at least somewhere? Maybe not the way it had been traditionally, but is there a time when it is useful and/or important? 1/2 #langchat

Yesterday, President Trump said of RFK: “I like the fact that he's different."

Yes. RFK is *different.*

He’s the first HHS secretary to actively endanger children by undermining what doctors & scientists around the world know to be true:

Vaccines have saved millions of lives.

I don’t feel that I learned too many new things, but I’m looking forward to Ch 3. Also, two of my current colleagues, one of my former colleagues (a co-author) and a former administrator at my school are all cited in this book 😮 #langchat #edusky

I wonder how many teachers/language classes still use a grammar syllabus to guide their units and levels and feel that a more “traditional” approach to language teaching is the golden standard, despite what research & practitioners say. #langchat #edusky
After reading this chapter, what questions do YOU have? It made you go, “huh?” #LangChat

I think I successfully teach language/grammar in context & have been doing so for a number of years. For example, I teach a summer break themed unit in Level 3 where we work with loads of phrases using past tenses before we talk about the grammar. #langchat #edusky
What is something you read that makes you feel you are doing well? It made you go, I’ve got this! Time to brag - tell us about your strengths. #LangChat

#langchat #edusky The performance target table on p. 10. One of the authors actually explained it to me several years ago, and I think I finally get it.
What's something you red in this chapter that was new to you? Maybe it made you go "Oh! I could use that!" #LangChat
