Making sense of the nonsensical.
Dmitry Grozoubinski @explaintrade.com truly is the best trade explainer out there.
I've had some great fun this year occasionally standing in for @soumayakeynes.ft.com on the FT's Economics Show podcast, none more so than the episode that just dropped in which Dmitry Grozoubinski @explaintrade.com attempts the impossible ie making sense of Trump's tariffs.

The concept of the zero-sum mindset helps explain a lot of what is going on in national and international politics today.
“To understand the zero-sum mindset—and why it varies across groups—it is necessary to look at where it comes from,” writes a Harvard professor. In a guest essay she maps out how Americans think about economic issues and policies

First, a statue of Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin appears in the Moscow Metro. Then a Kremlin adviser says that “from a legal standpoint the USSR still exists.” In Russia the past hangs over the present. My report from Moscow.

My take on today's US court tariff ruling. This is an excellent opportunity for the EU and other trading partners to quit preparing packages of concessions, tell Trump to shove it and get on with trading without the US.

First 300 clicks free. It being 3.42am here in London, I am now going to bed.

Not to be dramatic, but there really are days when I feel scared of the future.
Like, to pick an example at random, today.
What we are witnessing is an assault on the very concept of truth.
The armed conflicts we see unfolding all over the world will be accompanied by turmoil &doubt in our heads.

#RedLine or rather #BrownLine crossed: after learning about Elon Musk’s endorsement of Germany’s far-right AfD party, I finally overcame #FOMO and deleted my #x account.
