Minor success with today's surgery.
90% there, so I may need to refer the patient to a consultant.

"The Scent of Water" (pub 1975) a collection of Folk Tales by Carl MacDougall.
Illustrated by Alasdair Gray #GrayDay.

Carl was a close friend and mentor to me for 15 years up until his death in 2023.
He introduced me to Alasdair on a couple of occasions.

Resetting a guitar neck; a first on this one since buying it in 2017.
The Luthier's stamp shows it was still being assembled in Quebec in Feb '17.
I bought it a month earlier (January) but didn't receive it until the April, but not unhappy about it, given the pleasure it brings me.

I get a real pleasure of taking something I'm attached to, breaking it down into its component parts, cleaning them and put it all back together.
I used to do it with toys and I've also done it with houses (which take slightly longer).

Thursday was not just my first al fresco coffee but also my first day beyond my front door since 30th October last year that didn't involve a medical appointment.

However, I might now need to see a doctor regarding my cravings for Toblerone and an urge to yodel...

I been invited to a joint Burns Supper and Chinese New Year party tonight.
A Chinese Burns night.
I really don't want to go but they've twisted my arm.

Lost some render/masonry from a chimney this year and a tree in my garden lost a branch that took out my neighbour's internet cable.
So I consider myself lucky.
I was even luckier a couple of years ago when the winds took out a Rowan tree and it fell exactly in the right place...

2/2.
After WW2, under the NHS it became a maternity hospital until the late 1970s. It was used as an Ambulance depot until the 1990s when it was sold off and subdivided into apartments.
Mark Knopfler (1949) his brother David (1952) were born there.
So was I, exactly 58 years ago.

Redlands House, Kelvinside Glasgow.
Built in 1870 for a wealthy merchant, it didn't remain a residential house for long.
In 1900 it became a Women's Hospital, specialising in Women's Health and staffed (Doctors, Nurses, Porters, Admin) entirely by women.

First job of the year: old ashes out, stove cleaned and polished, new fire lit.
Done! So it's now officially 2025 for me.
Happy New Year.

I was made by Cheetah electronics cost £60 (in 1986), had a basic kit but you could buy cassettes of other drum sounds.
It was better (and cheaper) than the Roland Dr Rhythm but not as good as the TR.

While looking at some local history today, I've discovered an event that occurred almost opposite my driveway, on the other side of the road.
The dilemma is do I continue to play the lottery or do I put the money aside for a metal detector.

One of the 'good days' of 2024.
The Tenement House, Garnethill, Glasgow.
Despite living 2 closes/doors away from it in the mid to late 80s, I'd never been inside this place until this year.
Apparently unchanged since the early 1900s.
