Tbf I like older X and I’d have been curious to see how hide would have built off the vibe he had going with them on the Dahlia album. But while I like power ballads, I do prefer bouncier stuff overall.

Some of it is probably the 80s New Wave-ish influence for both? But also there’s probably something there on the DIY and handmade nostalgia to New Romantic being the punk when juxtaposed against a machine dystopia.
