Some N. CA locations. According to NWS Eureka, max wave heights were 1.2 ft in Humboldt Bay and 3.6 ft in Crescent City. Point Arena looks like it also saw waves around 3 ft.

There are 2 versions manufactured in diff. places - you have the ones I didn't like! Costco ones are larger (2.7 vs. 2.37oz), smoother texture, & the mango tastes like mango ice cream. Other ones are sugary, have a weird after taste, icier texture, lighter color, & definitely don't taste like mango.

I found a cuddle puddle of snakes in my yard (and there were at least 2 more on the ground)

My mollusc pop lab is a little harder in the winter b/c snails & slugs do a good job hiding when it's cold! But we still found some snails (only 2 slugs) plus many empty shells. And of course everyone loves finding the non-mollusc salamanders. Not sure what the other labs found in a different spot.

Also, this is what things have looked like today, although I haven't felt any of the smaller ones (my cats might say otherwise).

Back from WSN. My directed study students did a great job presenting posters at their first conference. Colette and Alison presented the work all three of them have been working on with me and Mina presented her summer REU research.

This week in Ecology we surveyed willow trees from a common garden experiment set up in 2009 (see Iler et al. 2022). A neat site to explore!

So y'know how I was excited that the freeze dryer worked...well I hadn't actually seen the freeze dryer...umm, it's ancient. As long as it works I'm happy, but it is scary looking! 😄

The Benthic Ecology Meeting is offering a $2500 diversity travel award opportunity for graduate and undergraduate minority students -- sorry for the screen shot; this was received via email (and I don't see a link anywhere) so it is not easily accessible to those not on the email list!
