For the US? Hell if I know. Mexicans were white up to the 40s, Irish weren't white until the 1890s, and Eastern Slavs are as white as NorthWest Europeans, though they had little historical, cultural, or ethnical mingling until the 90s. I guess it depends on whether it helps an argument or not.

I’m agreeing yet calling out you too not seeing the difference. If Antonio Banderas is white, would you be fine with Glen Powell or Micheal B. Jordan starring as El Cid Campeador? That’s like a non Greek playing Helen of Troy, Izmir, Asian Turkey, home to Pontic Greeks since the Bronze Age to 1922

Greek/Turkish are as white as Spaniards (think Antonio Banderas). That these roles have been so historically whitewashed they are considered white (as understood by Americans) is precisely part of the issue

I feel like there's a really interesting 'understanding lag' in there. like...still looking at the end product and going "oh before AI slop creation this end product had x value" and not realising that *the very process by which you just created it* has removed the market value from it

I’ll add that I had a wonderful surprise with Cruella (and that it de facto was an alternate universe not caring much for lore helped). But then again, Gaston is not getting written by Tony McNamara.
