Today's Good Things:

Sun in the afternoon.

I did my small amount of in-store gift shopping.

Hung a whole bag of ornaments on the tree, more than I expected to get done at once. Progress.

Mocha frappe from McDonald's.

Today's Good Things:

I finished hanging one box's worth of tree ornaments.

Uploaded this week's blog post.

Ordered some Christmas gifts.

Today's Good Things:

Second Sunday of Advent. As frequently happens, Father Peter's sermon took a tack I wouldn't have expected -- Jungian dream analysis of Isaiah's "peaceable kingdom" prophecy (the leopard shall lie down with the kid, etc.).

The choir sang a very impressive hymn at communion.

Today's Good Things:

Intermittent sun. All the snow has already melted away.

Les set up the Christmas tree, with the traditional shopping trip for a replacement string of lights.

I hung a few ornaments just to say the process was started.

Yesterday, forgot to mention mailing the Christmas cards. One holiday task finished.

Today's Good Things:

The snow stopped shortly after noon and didn't stick on the streets.
December 6, 2025 at 12:29 AM
Today's Good Things:

Another mostly sunny day (likely to be the last until early next week).

Because snow is predicted for tomorrow morning, I did the grocery shopping this afternoon. The amount totaled under budget.

Today's Good Things:

The sun returned.

Christmas cards are all stamped and ready to go.

Les had a periodontist appointment that went as expected.

Today's Good Things:

The rain finally stopped in time for me to drag the cans back to the top of the driveway without getting wet.

I uploaded this week's blog post.

Today's Good Things:

The sun returned, mostly.

The Christmas wreath is on the front door.

I hung the stockings and set up the two Nativity scenes.

Uploaded and distributed my December newsletter.

Yesterday a package of clippings from my Toronto pen pal arrived, so today I e-mailed a reply to her.

Today's Good Things:

First Sunday of Advent. The gospel reading was about the second coming. Reverend Patti preached on chronos (clock and calendar time) vs. kairos (God's time).
November 30, 2025 at 11:50 PM
Today's Good Things:

Bright and sunny all day, without wind.

A nice brief talk with some people walking dogs this morning.

The Christmas cards are almost finished.

The checkbook statement balanced exactly.

The usual Saturday Astral Plane cocktails (with rainbow glitter).

Today's Good Things:

The Giant bill totaled less than usual despite including ingredients for tomorrow's dinner.

A little more work on Christmas cards.

I found two cards on Amazon, reasonably priced, to make up for a gap in Giant's stock.

Dinner at Main & Market (aka Main Ingredient).

Yesterday's Good Things (Nov. 27):

Overnight, the wind miraculously cleared all the leaves off the driveway and sidewalk. Or maybe it was fall fairies.

Les hooked up his new computer, and it works.

Macy's parade followed by dog show, although we didn't watch much of either.
November 28, 2025 at 3:28 PM
Today's Good Things:

Temperature up to mid-60s, mild enough to open windows for a while. It felt nice to be not cold.
November 27, 2025 at 12:02 AM
Today's Good Things:

I made whole-berry cranberry sauce, even though we're not feasting at home this year, because I'm fond of it. Les is indifferent, so there's more for me. :)

Composed and uploaded a brief blog post for Thursday.
November 25, 2025 at 11:42 PM
Today's Good Things:

An entire night without coughing for the first time in at least a week. Maybe this "cold" is fading away.

I picked up my prescriptions from the Navy pharmacy. Not crowded.
November 24, 2025 at 11:54 PM
Today's Good Things:

The sun returned; temperature up to mid-50s.

Music at church by the handbell ringers. Christ the King Sunday. Father Peter preached on the "king" archetype and on Jesus as the "broken Messiah" as King.
November 24, 2025 at 12:56 AM
Today's Good Things:

Overnight rain mostly ended before morning. Some sun in the afternoon.

I worked a little on the December newsletter.

Working on Christmas cards.

Astral Plane cocktails with gold glitter.

Roast beef for dinner, with Les's homemade biscuits.
November 22, 2025 at 10:55 PM
Today's Good Things:

Since Giant still doesn't have any boxed Christmas cards this week (strange), I ordered a box online. Yay Amazon.

A glimpse of sun in the afternoon.

Dinner at Grump's Cafe. Pumpkin-spice bread French toast. Grits, biscuits, and a Smores milkshake brought home.
November 22, 2025 at 12:08 AM
Today's Good Things:

Les's replacement monitor arrived already! Maybe it was teleported here. :)

He attached it to the new computer, and it works. He also shipped back the broken monitor with no trouble.

I filled out and submitted the template for a Christmas promo event I'll be participating in.

Yesterday I read all of the current HWA newsletter in one sitting. It now comes in the body of an e-mail -- an improvement over having to (1) go to the website (2) click on each article individually -- much faster to read.

Today's Good Things:

The wind seems to have stopped, finally.
November 19, 2025 at 11:39 PM
Today's Good Things:

I uploaded this week's blog post.

Added a few more sentences to the DIY autobiography book.

Added some items to the post-mortem memo.

Worked a little on a book review in the December newsletter.
November 18, 2025 at 11:59 PM
Today's Good Things:

Les's new computer arrived. (Not set up yet.)

Also the fireproof document safe from Amazon.

I started on this week's blog post.

Today's Good Things:

Up to almost 60 degrees.

Lively music from the Wellspring band. Special guest preacher -- a former associate rector who's now on the diocesan staff. She preached on hope, using the difficulty of growing dahlias as a metaphor.

Today's Good Things:

Lunch with our second son and family at SHIKA sushi &ramen. Our midshipman grandson was home from his exchange student term in New Zealand.

A bit of bibliography work.
