The Marketing Guy
@mktguy.bsky.social
I'm just a marketing guy. I also may have opinions on tech, sales, the creator economy, sustainability, AI, brand strategy, design, or foreign policy. In that order.
cybersecurity will capture more revenue than all the big AI companies over the next decade.

Huh? What a weird take.

The Eiffel tower has been photographed 10 million times *this month* but 100 years from now people are still going to take travel photos of their kids on the grass at this exact spot.

You might be saying something about influencer marketing, but I have no idea what it is.

We completed a lap, and it's time for that time-honored annual reminder that we can all love and celebrate our country even if we disagree with the mendacious @#$! that run it. Patriotism is always distinct from nationalism.

Happy birthday, America. Get it the @#$! together, mkay?

In just the latest Democratic marketing and messaging failure, almost HALF of Americans polled have never heard of the 'Big Beautiful Bill' and only 8% know there is going to be significant Medicare and Medicaid cuts, as it slowly reaches senate approval.

It's not that liquid glass is in beta and won't ship like this, or that Jobs wouldn't come back to chuck a pen at someone's head if it did, it's that:

1. I don't know why I want to see through the interface in the first place?! What does it add?

and 2. Is Apple just an iPhone stock at this point?!

Paging @lindseygamble.bsky.social: You wrote the Reddit change to obfuscate post and comment history *could* encourage participation and 'improve transparency' and trust. I fear the opposite is true.

It just makes it hard to tell if you are talking to a person or AI bots. Sunlight is transparency.

You have the right to remain silent. Don't.

Sac A's have a mascot named Stomper that thinks the marketing team needs to get demoted to pulling tarp.

Spend millions on a rebrand to Max. Lay off a bunch of HBO people to make up the difference. Replace with Discovery execs that don't understand the brand or culture. Pull HBO originals (and screw creators and audiences) to replace with reality shows. Get a 26.5% raise to $50M annually.

Why tho?

Over 90 days after the worst US air disaster since 9/11 (and perhaps the most avoidable one), have we hired more controllers? Have we improved FAA infrastructure or ATC communications? Have we done... anything?

Asking for a friend.

Yep. Do it.

#3 UK

This isn't the East India Tea Company and the days of Empire, but despite it's large population even a post-Brexit UK is a massive exporter of language, sport, media, culture, education, monarchy, and may take a increasing role in geopolitics as the US pulls back.

Splits are 21, 3, 7.
May 7, 2025 at 5:37 PM
#2 UAE.

Statline: 93/10/9.3 A growing financial center and pro-business expat haven, Dubai retains a massive cultural impact across Africa, the Middle East and Asia, where relocating to the economic freedom and opportunity of the Emirates remains more accessible than the US, UK or EU for many.

#1 Switzerland.

Known for chocolates, cheeses, banks, watches, and neutrality, the country boasts a split of 99/8 for a WGBI of 12.38, driven by national reputation, governance, and the success of swiss people and companies. It's the most recommended to work and invest in, visit, or buy from.

Via @Stratechery, Facebook explicitly says they want to kill agency middlemen creating and buying inventory for billions in social media ads and they want to have brands/buyers work with Facebook directly.

A massive AI advantage, massive data, now you swipe your brex and zuck delivers customers.

Creativity requires inspiration. ...And there is no better place to get it than play.

Key ingredients? Joy, Whimsy, New People, and the Element of Surprise.

This is what happens when you get a Miami F1 design made, but then Mario the brand guy won't sign off on the art... and instead of changing your mind and going with white or something you instead tell your creative director to just @#$! your shit up.

Wild. Time spent watching TV doesn't change (yay!) but the money spent by advertisers is rising many times faster than inflation (wah!).

Every marketing channel sucks for CMO's and brands right now. And it's getting worse.
