Cyclopean II: The Dreamlands is the much anticipated follow up to Cyclopean: The Great Abyss. An old school CRPG in the vein of Ultima, Questron and Legacy of the Ancients, based on H.P. Lovecraft's Dream Cycle.

Wishlist Cyclopean II: The Dreamlands! Maybe I will produce some more finished looking screenshots in the near future. The level design process is filled with weird little artifacts, that I am too tired to explain.

This is starting to feel like a world ready to explore. It's a tedious process to build, but the pay off is nice. Still it's just very basic areas, with very few details...

This is what I would call a "first pass" at a new area. I plan to come back and add details, maybe move things around a bit. But all the main elements are there...

I may be old, but it looks like a pretty standard 3D game with a low res pixel shader. It's not that different (technically) from some of the stuff I've done, like in these Star Explorers scenes.

I have had a productive few days. I re-designed my whole map to be much more contained. So now when I think about adding all the details, I don't get totally overwhelmed. Speaking of which, here is an area I've been working on...

Cyclopean: The Great Abyss is fortunate to have been included in Roguelike Fest on Steam! It is categorized, appropriately, under "Weird Stuff" just where I like to be :)

Starting to smooth out and add detail to the world map. It's still super rough, but you can see some progress between the different areas, some still being in the blocked out phase... #GameDev

Testing one of the new areas in-game. Making sure things like collisions work. It's important to do this early before adding a ton of detail, as that can require a lot of re-doing if it is not prepared properly. #GameDev #LevelDesign #CRPG

I hear some very different opinions about how difficult my game is, and I think I am beginning to understand why. This is from a Steam discussion. I might be over simplifying it, but I think this may be at the heart of the problem.

The available options in the find and replace dialogue are now dependent on the size of the program window. Not the size of the dialogue window, that might actually make sense. But the 'replace all' function just does not appear if the notepad window is under a certain width.

Still the most traumatizing bug I experienced in Star Explorers. I made a new thing where friendly miners could appear on some planets. But I had also recently added meteors which would fall in random locations ... behold the consequences of my actions:
