Oof, I feel a lot of that. I'm straight, but I did marry an indigenous man from (way!) south of the border. Which definitely raised some judgy eyebrows back home, at the kindest. Knowing how much *that* hurt, I can't imagine your struggles, and strength to get to where you are now!

I did not grow up fantastically wealthy like she did, but I did escape the horrifically RW area where I grew up and did not let that area define who I am as an adult. So I totally feel Max and her struggle in that aspect.

I too love the combo of Jenks and Max. If I had to pick a single character, it would definitely be Max. I love her escape from the clutches of her family of origin.
