Having been reading the history of the industrial revolution the sacrifice of children to the gods of AI is very much on brand. As in, we can as easily avoid kids being tricked into self harming with AI as we could protecting children from being minced by industrial machinery, we just choose not to.

Amazon has added this amazing new feature where if you add the word ' christmas' to anything you search for, it shows you any old shite for three pages before you get to whatever it was you actually typed in. Amazon does excel at doing everything it can to avoid showing you what you actually want.

A defining feature of our tech overlords is their utter, utter stupidity and willingness to burn through billions in order to fail at something everyone already warned them about. Zuckerberg burned through 70 billion to prove that VR doesn't work, something anyone could and did tell him to avoid.

Is now a good time to be reading about how the luddites didn't oppose new technology, just objected to it undermining their labour value, and who were then often arrested and hanged on behalf of wealthy owners? And that the ruling class argued that poverty was good for working people?

Nice to see that the nostalgia- ometer has moved on to the point where the 1970s are the good old days. Course it wasn't better then, old days never were. The point is for those on the right to pretend it was and con old people. That's why it moves forward as time goes on.

Didn't know there was a star trek section 31 film. Watched it. Realised why I hadn't heard of it. It manages to be bad in a way that trek, no stranger to crapness, hasn't managed in the past. Managed to look both low budget and have jarring whedonesque dialogue. Evil empress wasted utterly in this.

The problem with AI video generation is not so much that it provides fakes as good as the original, is that it means anyone can dismiss real video as fake. So all that footage of police violence and states murdering civilians, can now be dismissed. It is the end of effective citizen journalism.

Watching the foundation TV series answers the question " what if andor didn't have very good writing?" Or perhaps more accurately " what would 70s UK SF writers do with 300 million dollars?". Yet still less pretentious than the Dune TV series...

Still irks me that the best depiction of the US descent into fascism comes from the last season of the TV series' the boys'. Even down to how easily the Dems were fooled into thinking they could centrism their way into power. Even more annoying, Gen Vs take on influencer culture is spot on.

Trumps goons are not banning antifa because they think it's a real organisation, they're banning it because they know it's not. That way anyone expressing anti fascist ideas can be arrested in the most sweeping way possible and accused of terrorism. It's an obvious ploy that will, once again, work.

I've tried to like alien earth, but watching an episode of people who I already know will die, die on a ship like in alien, in pretty much the same way as alien, doesn't really feel like it adds anything. The aliens kill, the company is evil, rich people have no morals. Not exactly groundbreaking.

Almost sunak- esque levels of stupidity behind government dealing with Palestine action. Arresting pensioners protesting genocide while appeasing open racists is never going to work. If the average age of people arrested for protesting is in their fifties then you have lost the argument.

Seeing a Spanish town with an Arabic name, which for centuries was Muslim, ban Muslim festivities for being 'alien to their culture' sums up the deliberate ignorance of the far right. All their claims of ethnic and cultural purity have always been a combination of wishful thinking and bad faith.

Perhaps if those in the UK protesting Israeli genocide in Gaza simple wrote something racist on the reverse of their placards aimed at asylum seekers then the labour government would listen to their voices all of a sudden.

The terms ' surgical strike' and ' humanitarian pause' should be banned from the English language, since both seem to just involve armies killing lots of people and then pretending there is anything rational about it.

Watching lots of old Sabbath live it becomes immediately obvious that Tony iommi - 1. From about 1971 dressed like the coolest dark space wizard, and never changes. 2. Is always smiling and having a wonderful time 3. Gives off enough cheerful dad energy to power a small city.

The best thing about AI art is it shows how creatively bankrupt most people are who use it. You have a machine that can plagiarise anything from two thousand years of art and all you can think of is knockoff Ghibli characters? That alone shows the necessity for real artists.

Funnily enough it is actually immigration that will destroy western civilisation. Not the actual people, of course, since our entire economies are built on them. But the fear of it means governments in the west will torch their civil liberties and economic growth as they pursue this phantom.

There is no worst part of this, but starmer pretending to be outraged by the chants, when as ICC members the UK has an obligation to combat any military currently committing genocide. Especially since the ICC found the IDF guilty of genocide, and starmer must know this as a former HR lawyer.

Funny how Iran trying to get nukes is an existential risk to Israel, but Israel actually having nukes is totally okay, despite it currently having attacked 3 separate nations. Tiring to watch our politicians recycle the same old lines that weren't true twenty years ago, and are even less true now.
